Dr. Louis Porter II

Dr. Louis Porter II is an English Faculty member of the Dougherty Family College, part of the University of St. Thomas, mentoring students from diverse backgrounds, many of whom are first generation college students. Previously he was the Executive Director of the Council for Minnesotans of African Heritage (CMAH). A New Orleans native, he graduated from Boston University with his bachelor’s in journalism and earned his Master’s in Liberal Arts Studies in writing from Hamline University. He also has a doctorate in organization development form the University of St. Thomas.

Since 1999, he has been the president of Steadfast, previously LPII Communication and Development, which is a highly sought-after communication and organization development consulting practice. Porter has also worked for the Pioneer Press as a reporter and has been a professor at various Minnesota colleges and universities, including the University of Minnesota’s Carlson School of Management the University of Northwestern - St. Paul. A longstanding board member from 2006 to 2018, Louis has chosen to return to COMPAS for his second stint. Louis is also a COMPAS Teaching Artist and knows firsthand the difference creative experiences make in the lives of people COMPAS serves and our community.
