Believing hip hop culture is in need of change, Mike is determined to be that change with mentorship, unity, and love.
Teaching Artist Statement
I believe the secret to what I do is meeting participants where they are. My student focused approach is centered on giving participants what they need through music. To me music is a universal language and happens to be one of the fastest places to build self-esteem, especially in young people. Learning through music allows students to explore infinite paths. Whether its tackling stage fright by teaching students performance technique or by using their inexperience with creative writing to provide a positive outlet, I welcome the opportunity to assist in the flourishing of creatives of all ages.

5,000 Hours
“There is an old saying related to the 10,000 hour rule. It suggests that achieving mastery in any skill requires approximately 10,000 hours of dedicated practice. Whether this is true or not, the first 5,000 hours are on me.” 5,000 hours is an artist development program designed to enhance the lives of young artists by allowing them to flourish in their own way.
Biig Miic specializes in being able to meet participants where they are in their artistic journey and assist them in getting where they’re trying to go. Even if they aren’t sure themselves. The enriching part of this offering is multilayered. Sessions are designed to build confidence, self-esteem and self-awareness while focusing on building musical competency. Participants can expect to be mentored through music. This looks different for each student, and the mentoring component is a reminder that as much as it is a class about music, it’s also a class about life. In class, participants will experience creative writing, songwriting, audio recording, performance prep and will have the option to perform in a classroom setting. This is designed to work on public speaking and address any issues surrounding stage fright.
Biig Miic shows up to his sessions with a workstation where he brings a rolling desk with a monitor attached and drum machine, recording equipment (microphone and interface), and speakers unless an alternative output device can be provided.
