In the words of Woodbury High School senior, Anna Sullivan, “It’s been a really rough couple of years, especially for artists trying to promote and show off what they’re proud of. I’m incredibly overjoyed to have my work featured in this show. It means a lot to have your work recognized by others and I’m so glad this show has given me this opportunity.”

Anna is talking about COMPAS’ inaugural Emerging Young Artists exhibit. And we are delighted to show off artwork created by middle school and high school students in the East Metro.

February 11 – 25, 2022, forty-five pieces of student artwork, ranging from paintings and digital prints to sculpture and ceramics, will be on display in the Creators Space Gallery in downtown Saint Paul. The works were selected by a panel of professional teaching artists from a range of submissions. The show and opening reception are open to the public and free to attend.

COMPAS thanks sponsors of Emerging Young Artists for helping us recognize, celebrate, and develop the skills of young visual artists in the Saint Paul metro region:

Emerging Young Artists owes its legacy to the Les Farrington Best 100 Juried Art Show which was administered by the Saint Paul Jaycees from 1957 until 2019. “It was a priority for the Saint Paul Jaycee Foundation to continue to support some of our long-standing legacy projects and programs when the local chapter closed in 2020,” said Lisa Hiebert, Trustee with the Saint Paul Jaycees Foundation. “We sought out COMPAS for our shared mission, knowing they could build on the strong foundation of the Best 100, expanding the program to include their talented Teaching Artists and inspiring more young creatives in our community. We are excited to be a part of Emerging Young Artists program now, and into the future.”
