As an educator, my hope is that my audience is not only entertained but also learns more about the world around them in the process. And through listening, they may also become more interested in other cultures, initiating a curiosity that will carry itself into their own lives. – Scott Keever

Scott Keever is an award-winning fingerstyle guitarist from Minneapolis, MN who combines an American roots sound with styles as far ranging as Celtic, Balkan and jazz. He is an engaging multifaceted performer who is as comfortable playing slide resophonic guitar as he is playing classical or folk guitar.

As well as being a solo performer, Scott plays guitar and Bulgarian tambura for Orkestar Bez Ime (OBI), an award-winning Twin Cities band that specializes in Balkan dance music, another COMPAS performance group. He has also been a long-time musician in the Minnesota music scene, having shared the stage with performers such as Peter Ostroushko, Prudence Johnson, Pat Donohue and Phil Heywood.  In the local Minnesota theater scene, he has performed and provided music in productions with Brave New Workshop, Flying Foot Forum, Walking Shadow Theater, Ethnic Dance Theater, O’Shea Irish Dance and Table Salt Productions.

In his performances, Scott aspires to introduce audiences to new and different ways of listening, by performing music (both original and traditional) on four different sounding guitars, while also introducing the audience to fingerstyle guitar. His performances represent his interests in diverse musical styles and genres. They also represent his belief that we can learn something about ourselves through each style and with that knowledge, add richness to our lives.

The Music of the Guitar

Scott Keever introduces audiences to new and different ways of hearing music, by performing music (both original and traditional) on four different sounding guitars and introducing the audience to fingerstyle guitar (steel string acoustic, classical, jazz electric, resophonic slide guitar). These performances are meant to expose them to new combinations of sounds that will also engage their imagination. Performances are available for all ages and can be designed specifically to high school or middle school programs. Duration: 60-90 minutes
