The name Maqam represents the musical scale of Arabic music. The Maqam ensemble, under the direction of mick laBriola, performs folk, classical and popular music genres from Egypt, Morocco, Tunisia and Algeria.

Folkloric, Classical & Popular Music of the Arabic World

Explore the rich array of folk, classical and popular music from Egypt, Morocco, Tunisia and Algeria. Maqam demonstrates and plays traditional Middle Eastern instruments such as the oud, saz, tablah and riqq. The performance focuses on the three fundamental unifying traits of Arabic music: voice, melody and rhythm. Listen and respond to music that is based on the spoken Arabic language.

Note: A sound rental fee normally is needed. Prices vary for community and business bookings. Please contact staff for more information.
