As an organization that works with over 25,000 schoolchildren each year, this tragedy has hit us particularly hard. There are no words for the grief and shock we feel after the events at Annunciation Catholic Church and School. Two children lost their lives, and seventeen others, fourteen of them children, sustained injuries during what should have been a hopeful first week of the school year. Instead, students, families, and educators are now living with pain, fear, and heartbreak none of us could have imagined.
Our hearts ache for every parent who ran toward the church searching for their child, every teacher and staff member who cared for students during those terrifying moments, and every young person whose sense of safety was shattered. We hold close those recovering in the hospital and the families keeping vigil beside them. We see you, we love you, and you are not alone.
As neighbors, educators, and individuals who care deeply about this community, we grieve with you and hold you in our hearts during this time of sorrow.
