Ten Thousand Things Theater
United Arts Grant Recipient 2004-2005

2004-2005 Performance Season: Cyrano de Bergerac, Iphegenia and Ragtime

"This is drama in the best sense of the word: It's reality heightened to poetry, without losing ascintilla of its humanity in the elevation. No matter where you reside on society's ladder, "Cyrano" has something to teach you."
~ Dominic Papatola, theater critic for St. Paul Pioneer Press

Ten Thousand Things brings lively, intelligent theater to people with little access to the wealth of the arts -- who in turn help us to re-imagine theater.   Performing at homeless shelters, prisons and other low-income centers, using the region's finest actors, this bare bones, high quality theater company invigorates ancient tales, classic stories and contemporary plays through its search for raw, open interactions between actors and audiences. In such humble settings, the skills and imaginations of great artists confront the honesty and insight of people who have lived hard lives. Through this dynamic exchange, we create urgent, electrifying work -- a reminder that theater is essential to all our lives.

Ten Thousand Things was awarded a United Arts grant in 2004-2005 to fund the touring of three energetic performances around the Twin Cities - Cyrano de Bergerac, Iphegenia and Ragtime. The community impact of Ten Thousand Things’ continues to grow, inspiring more people to realize that theater is better when everyone is in the audiences.
