A  beautiful child with a magnetic smile and spirit, 10-year-old Cheyenne performed as a washed-out   movie star who teaches her mailperson how to really sing.  Dressed in the red satin housecoat with a feather boa around her neck, Cheyenne captured the audience.  With the spotlight bright on her face, she sang “Ain’t no mountain high enough, ain’t no mountain low enough, ain’t no river wide enough, to keep me from getting to you, babe.” She broke character to show her joy with what she had done.  An eager learner, a gifted performer and a bright light in our Chicago Avenue Project classes, Cheyenne’s mother said the Project “gives her [daughter] character; she gets to express herself and we get a chance to see who she really is.”

Your music makes me feel peaceful
Your music makes me wonder many things
What was its writer feeling? Were they happy or sad?  
Were they thinking about a special time in their life?
I wish I could go inside the head of all these writers of music.
Your music makes me feel joyful –
it tickles my soul
I want to jump up and dance
I want to hug my best friend
I want to celebrate with a great big party!

The world would be a sad place
