COMPAS has been named one of nine Saint Paul Public Schools’ Arts for AllArts 25 program sites for 2006-07. This award provides $5000 for Ramsey Junior High to partner with COMPAS to explore new expressions of literary arts through performance poetry, Hip Hop aesthetics, improvisation and dramatics. Ramsey Junior High’s Arts 25 project is designed to stimulate our students’ imaginations and expand their understanding of the existence of the art forms of spoken word and drama.
The program celebrates the arts as a core academic area, taps into the richness of local arts resources and artists, and embodies best practices in teaching and learning and helps students meet arts standards. In addition, the project will provide professional development for Ramsey educators that will connect them to new models of working with students, and will allow them to extend prior learning acquired via the Arts Literacy Workshop.
COMPAS arts residencies will be conducted by spoken word artist Frank Sentwali (March 12-23) and theater artist T. Mychael Rambo (March 5-9). Please join us at Ramsey’s Arts 25 Community Events on March 2 and 23 to celebrate the creative expressions of our students.
COMPAS has been engaging people and communities in creating art for over three decades. We believe that there is power in creative self-expression and that participation in the arts is fundamental to the life of every individual and community.
