COMPAS WAITS artist KELLY REGAN BARNHILL is a writer, teacher, and mom. A finalist for the Jerome Foundation’s Emerging Writer’s Fellowship, Kelly’s work has been showcased in publications like The Heartlands Today, Thin Coyote, and Split-City Review. She recently published a children’s educational book, Monsters of the Deep: Deep Sea Adaptation, that takes children thousands of feet underwater to discover how creatures at the bottom of the ocean survive.

LISA HIMMELSTRUP was one of two teachers in the Saint Paul Public Schools to receive an Art Teacher Award of Excellence at the Annual Honors Concert and Art Exhibit in April 2007. This award was based on her exemplary collection of student artwork submitted to the Honors Exhibit. An art teacher for over fourteen years, Lisa has an M.A. in art therapy from Saint Mary’s University and an education degree from Concordia University. She teaches art, with an emphasis on pottery, at St. Paul Central High School. Lisa has been an ArtsWork Teaching Artist through a partnership with the Northern Clay Center.

RACHEL NELSON, a COMPAS WAITS artist, is a songwriter and folk musician passionate about live performance. She recently received a COMPAS artist development grant to produce Living the Questions songs, stories, and poems that collide with questions both personal and political. Performances will be at the University of WisconsinSuperior on March 25. A new version will be presented at the National Storytelling Conference’s Fringe Festival in August.
