Call for Individual Artists and Teaching Organizations

The ArtsWork Program is looking for professional artists - musicians, writers (poets & playwrights), visual artists and photographers, dancers, etc - to work this summer with youth between ages 14-21. Professional Artists will share their experiences and give career guidance and mentoring to Apprentice Artists hired to produce quality work.

We are looking for Artists to work at sites in downtown St. Paul, sites in Minneapolis, and at St. Paul Recreation Centers for projects that will include drop-in arts activities for neighborhood youth.

Position: Lead Artist
Reports to: ArtsWork Director
Date Available: June 23 – August 1, 2008
Work Hours: 9:00 AM - 3:30 PM
Salary: $30 - $35 an hour

Below is listed what will be needed to apply:

REQUEST FOR PROGRAM PROPOSAL

Deadline: Friday, February 8, 2008, 4:00 pm

Mission Statement: Artist/Art Organization must summarize the general mission/artistic vision of their program.

Narrative: Describe the focus of your proposed project.

Curriculum: Week-by-week detailing of assignments, exercises, field trips, etc. This section must be detailed in order to demonstrate how the program will fulfill ArtsWork goals. You must detail how this program will offer an Apprentice, job skills as well as artistic skills.

Supplies: A detailed account of all supplies and equipment required for project must be submitted, including vendor identifying information and prices. Cost of ALL supplies must be reflected in budget.

Budget: A complete listing of all expenses. Expenses not requested and approved in writing will not be funded.

Artist Documentation: Resume and samples of applicable work (i.e. slides, photos, video) is required.

Responsibilities: Interviewing of Apprentice Artists on April 9, 10, 11, 16, 17, 18, 23, 24 and 25 (please leave these days open), implement curriculum, supervise Apprentice Artists, supervise drop-in youth, supervise Teaching Assistant, attend Orientation meeting, attend all staff meetings, attend Events, monitor all attendance and discipline records, clean and maintain work space, evaluate Apprentice Artists and program, close the program; pack up all supplies and art work and return to storage, turn in all receipts and unused funds at end of program.

Requirements: Academic Training - extensive academic training, possess a degree or demonstrate an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Professional Experience: Lead Artist must be a mature, practicing professional artist with three to five years of professional exhibitions, musical performance, dance performance or theatre experience.

Teaching Experience: Lead Artists must have a solid background in teaching, including 3-5 years working with diverse groups between the ages of 14 and 21.
