A look at a wide range of books by Minnesotans that could easily get lost among best-sellers.
MARY ANN GROSSMANN (excerpted from article)
Every year, COMPAS publishes an anthology of writing by Minnesota students who worked with professional writers in the Writers in the Schools program. And every year, I am astonished at the talent and imaginations of these youngsters. The 28th annual anthology, "My Mind Can See in the Night" (edited by Sarah Fox, $12), includes poetry, short stories, memoirs, plays and songs by 90 students.
Fox begins her introduction referring to the poem "My Mind Is a Spaceship'' by Bryce Martenson, who attends South Elementary School in St. Peter. His poem begins: "My mind is like a spaceship/full of questions./My mind is the world/orbiting the sun,/wondering how the bright/sun shines like a dove/in the evening sky …''
Bryce is in third grade!
