Can you believe it's been 39 years that COMPAS has been publishing student writing for our anthology? In those many years we've seen and heard incredible stories of bravery, empowerment, love and compassion. For every week of a writing program two student’s pieces are selected by the teaching artist as finalists for inclusion in the book. Make sure to mark your calendars for December 8th for the reading of the anthology. Until then, here's a sneak peek at one of the finalists from Hillcrest Community School

The Beauty of the World
by Gwen Vogt

The words fly off the pages like a peaceful, soaring dove
And the color comes alive like the bright morning sun
The beauty of this world
Spins around you
But you never know it’s there
You must take in all the beauty
Before it’s disappears
Of all the good and evil
That we get caught up in
Turns into a worry
That blocks our imagination
So don’t let go
Of the beauty of this world
Embrace it
And see how far you’ll go
