The Russian Cultural Center “Russian Soul” is committed to preserving and promoting the rich and diverse ethnic Russian cultural and artistic heritage through research, presentation, and outreach programs, as well as serving as a liaison between the Russian-speaking community and the broader community of the Twin cities.

 

 

Russian Village Summer or Winter Festival and Folklore

Belozer’e, Russian folk ensemble, offers a variety of peasant folk songs and dances, from various areas in Russia, performed in unique handmade period costumes.  Schedule Request

 

Russian City Folklore

A program featuring 19th & early 20th century city dwellers’ culture. Svyatki (Christmas), Maslenitza (Mardi-Gras), Devichnik (Bridal ritual) Unique programs recreating ancient Slavic traditions, which survived from pagan times. The songs performed by Belozer’e are authentic folk tunes, the dances are based on traditional elements, but all compositions are creations of the members of the ensemble. The State Republican Center for Russian Folklore in Moscow is our major source for the historic research on costumes, traditions, rituals, dance and music.  Schedule Request

 

Workshops

Some workshops may require special materials and a material fee may be added.

 

Russian Clay Toys (K-2+)

Filimonovo or Dymkovo clay toys (2 sessions needed, as the clay must be dry for painting).  Schedule Request

 

Russian Dance & Game (Pre-K – 5)

Learn basic dance steps and the khorovod dance and game Roucheeyok (“Spring”).  Schedule Request

 

Making of Kokoshniks (Pre-K+)

Make the Russian traditional headdress kokoshnik; may be simple or sophisticated.  Schedule Request

 

Russian Macrame (K-2+)

Macrame, or knot-weaving, is done both by women and men in Russia. Learning how to make a simple bracelet or necklace is the first step in acquiring ancient skill. A series of workshops is available.  Schedule Request

 

Seed Beading (K-2+)

Learn a technique that is widely used in Russian traditional arts and crafts.  Schedule Request

 

Russian Embroidery (K-4+)
