Scandinavian dances and tunes will engage any audience! Dances showcase the variety of rhythms, movement and styles from region to region and from past to present.

 

Village Dances and Tunes from Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Finland

Their smooth Swedish polskor, acrobatic Norwegian springars, and playful Finnish jenkkas will provide a window on a sometimes-familiar, sometimes-foreign local culture. Presentations include explanations of folk costumes, along with morsels of history and geography. Members of The North Star Nordic Dancers, who share over one hundred years of collective Scandinavian dance and music experience, perform the traditional music and dance of Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Finland.  Schedule Request

 

Scandinavian Folk Dance

Participants will move in time to various rhythms as they learn circle dances, figure dances, mixers, and couples’ dances from Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Finland. Dance workshops can be tailored to any age or skill level.  Schedule Request

 

Scandinavian Folk Music: Making Music for Dancing

Participants will learn to make music for dancing. Learn to play the mouth harp (munnharpe) and sing to create rhythms for dancing. For high school orchestras, participants learn traditional tunes by ear in 4 parts. Participants will then play for dancers. Music director must be present during high school orchestra workshops.  Schedule Request
