FRANCIS KOFI-HAYOR BIBIMMA DANCE THEATER

Before founding Hayor Bibimma (meaning “bringing the masses together”) in the Twin Cities in 2002, Artistic Director Francis Kofi spent over a decade as a professional dancer and choreographer in his native Ghana, as well as in Nigeria, Togo, Benin and Burkina Faso. Joined by several dancers and drummers from his company, Francis brings his enthusiasm and love of dance to your students in this energetic and informative presentation.

To Africans, dance is life in action. This dynamic and skilled company brings to your school such dances as Kete, a romantic court dance of the Ashanti and Akuapim peoples; Bamaya, a popular social dance of the Dagbani people; and Kpaalogo, a recreational dance of the Ga youth. Students are invited to participate in call-and-response songs, learn traditional rhythms, and try out some dance steps. This interactive performance will encourage your students to experience an art form that has historical, allegorical and educational value, and promotes cultural awareness and understanding.  Schedule Request
