DANCE REVELS MOVING HISTORY

Dance Revels Moving History makes history fun and memorable for audiences of all ages using dance, theater, live music and historical costuming. Dancer and director Jane Peck is joined by dancer Christopher Yaeger and the fiddle magic of Gary Schulte or Judith Eisner and other special guests. Dance Revels Moving History has performed across the Midwest and Canada since 1990.

A Day in Colonial America

Students join in the fun of Colonial North American dance and rhythms with Jane Peck and Christopher Yaeger as they dance the Boston Tea Party contredanse, jig steps from New France (an area which included Minnesota), Canario rhythms from New Spain, and create their own versions of the spirited Cakewalk dance from the Plantation South. Students learn about Minnesotan history as they kick up their heels in the dances of French voyageurs and their French-Indian families. The workshop includes jigs and reels, the Rabbit Dance game, and a theatrical canoe-paddling adventure. Two dancers and a fiddler lead this workshop in dance and theater with live music. Minnesotan history is brought to life as a French voyageur and fur trader travels from Quebec to the Boundary Waters, meeting a French-Ojibwe (Métis) woman who trades with him. Students actively explore the classical dance forms minuet, gavotte, waltz, and polka with dance historian and performer Jane Peck and violinist Judith Eisner. This is a masked comedy with live classical music, dance, and acting from the palaces of 18th C. France! A fascinating look at the clothing, social hierarchy, and rich arts of that culture. Giggle at the antics of the crazy Baroness and Duchess and be enthralled by the dancing of the Prince and Princess. The story is of a servant girl who rises to royalty due to brains, charm, and luck.
