  Cuadro Folklorico performs regularly throughout the Midwest. This acclaimed ensemble features Flamenco guitarist Michael Hauser, honored by Macalester College for his years of teaching Flamenco guitar and dancers Deborah Elias and Sachiko Nishiuchi. Deborah is a founding member and primary teacher at the Zorongo Flamenco Dance Theatre Studios. Sachiko has studied dance in Spain, the United States, and Japan and is also a teacher at Zorongo Flamenco.

Explore Spanish culture through Flamenco dance and music. Learn rhythms through dance and palmas (hand clapping) using Spanish dance vocabulary. Delve more deeply into Spanish culture by learning verses from the poems of Federico Garcia Lorca, and how music and dance help express poetry. Flamenco Espana!

Flamenco reflects the rich cultural influences of the native Andalusians, Gypsy, Islamic and Sephardic cultures in Spain. Listen to a wide variety of styles, or palos, from the most serious cante jondo, to the light-hearted cante chico. The music is accompanied by the dancer’s rhythmic footwork and hand clapping that makes up Flamenco’s exciting and powerful dance. Schedule Request

Music and Dance from Spain to Mexico

Materials Fee: $25 for artists to bring wood floor. Only required if school can not provide a performance area with wood flooring.
