Above are all of the forms you will need to plan and evaluate a residency. Once you have selected your potential artists from this website, simply fill out the Writer/Artist Request Form and send it in. We schedule artists in the order that requests are received, so please schedule as early as possible.  If you would like to schedule online, click here: (will go to Schedule an Artist page).

To get started, select a discipline from the list above, and begin your tour of our WAITS artists.  To help you make the decision that is best for your school, here are the various residency models available:

WAITS Residency Model Options

(T) Traditional $1700/week
Used by most schools, this model has been serving Minnesota well for decades. The package provides for 5 days of hands-on activities with an artist, including:
• up to 2 hours of advance planning time (may be done by phone, email, or in person)
• 4 classes per day (at least 2 must be Core Groups that meet with the artist every day)
• Teacher In-service session
• Community Event
• For writers only: in addition, each writer selects student work for possible inclusion in our annual Anthology of Student Writing

Variations

(S) Saturation $1800/week
Format is the same as Traditional; except that Core Groups are optional. School can use the 4 classes per day in any mix & match combination.

(E) Extended $1600/week (Save $100+/week)
Format is the same as Traditional, except that the residency must run for 15 days or more, with the same artist.  This model is best for murals, public sculpture, and other ambitious projects.

(C) Collaboration $1700/week
Format is the same as Traditional model, except that artist does only 3 class sessions per day (not 4), and spends an hour per day in planning time with teachers. This planning can focus on elements useful for the current residency, or for future classroom activities.

The above costs cover all artist fees, mileage and lodging. Not included: equipment rental and materials costs, where applicable.
