Residency
Jazz, Latin Music & Composition
In my residencies, students may learn the rhythms of Cuba, samba music and dances from Brazil, or Latin jazz melodies from New York. Students learn what I learned from the master musician in Havana, what it sounded like in the samba club in Rio, or how jazz soared out of the basement club in the Big Apple. I teach basic musical rhythms and melodies and the steps to the famous dances. Content can be tailored to curriculum so that students can make artful “culture collages” that colorfully show the intersecting points of history, people and music.
